Biography

David Baker is an award-winning saxophonist and music educator based in New York City, currently completing his doctoral studies at Manhattan School of Music. He has been heard in concert halls across the US and Germany in solo, chamber, and orchestral performances. Recently, David has appeared in concerts with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, Westchester Symphonic Winds, Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra/Wind Ensemble, San Jose State University Orchestra/Wind Ensemble and more. As an avid supporter of new music for the Saxophone, David has collaborated and premiered works by up and coming composers such as Hao Shen, Shuwen Liao, Alexander Howard, Jose Eduardo Munoz, Pablo Marcelo Ramirez, and more.

David is currently an active member of the Zelos Saxophone Quartet, an award-winning chamber ensemble that was named the winner of the Francis Walton Chamber Music Competition, Beverly Hills National Audition, California State MTNA and Southwest Region MTNA Chamber Winds Competitions. Recently, the group has performed on a number of concert series across California, New York, Arizona, And Washington. Their music has also been aired on Classical King FM and on NPR’s live sessions.

David has been teaching saxophone privately in the Bay Area/New York since 2021. In addition to teaching his own private lesson studio, he has done weekly coaching with saxophone sections at high schools in the area.

David’s primary teachers include Paul Cohen, Michael Hernandez, and Carina Rascher, with extensive chamber music coaching from the Rascher Saxophone Quartet and MANA Quartet.
